Knox Privacy Policy

Overview

  • Purpose: Knox helps you scan and organize receipts on your device, with optional iCloud sync via Apple CloudKit.
  • Scope: This policy explains what data the app handles, how it’s used, and your choices.

What We Handle

  • Receipt content: Images you capture/import and extracted data (merchant, date, totals, line items, tags, notes).
  • App settings: Preferences such as currency, sorting, filters, and sync toggles.
  • iCloud data: If enabled, your receipts/settings stored in your private iCloud database (CloudKit container iCloud.com.techbi.knox).

What We Don’t Collect

  • No server collection: We do not run our own servers for your data. We don’t receive, sell, or share your receipts or personal data.
  • No tracking: We do not embed third‑party trackers or advertising SDKs.

How Your Data Is Processed

  • On‑device processing: Scanning and text extraction occur on your device using Apple frameworks.
  • Local storage: Data is stored on your device (e.g., Core Data/SQLite).
  • iCloud sync (optional): If enabled, data is synced to your private iCloud via Apple CloudKit. This data is tied to your Apple ID and isn’t accessible to us.

Third‑Party Services

  • Apple iCloud/CloudKit: Storage and sync in your iCloud account; encrypted in transit and at rest per Apple’s policies. Learn more at Apple’s privacy site.
  • Apple Crash Reports (optional, OS‑level): If you opt into Apple’s “Share with App Developers,” we may receive anonymized crash logs. We do not receive analytics identifying you.

Permissions Used

  • Camera: Capture receipt images for scanning.
  • Photos (optional): Import receipts from your photo library.
  • iCloud: Sync and back up receipts/settings via your Apple ID.
  • Notifications (optional): Reminders or status updates if you enable them. No content of receipts is sent in notifications.

Purposes of Use

  • Provide core features: Scan, recognize, organize, search, and back up receipts.
  • Sync and restore: Keep your data available across your devices via iCloud if you enable it.
  • Reliability: Diagnose crashes and improve stability (only if you opt in to share with developers via Apple).

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Your control: Data remains on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud account until you delete it.
  • Delete locally: Remove receipts within the app or delete the app to remove local data.
  • Delete from iCloud: iOS Settings > > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > > Delete Data.
  • Backups: Data may persist in device/iCloud backups per your Apple settings.

Security

  • Device protections: Your device passcode/biometrics and iOS protections apply to local data.
  • iCloud protections: Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple; Advanced Data Protection is available if you enable it.
  • Our access: We do not have access to your private CloudKit database.

Children

  • Not directed to children under 13 (or the age required by your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International Data

  • iCloud: Apple may store/process data in multiple regions per its policies. We do not transfer your data to our servers.

Your Rights

  • Access/Export: View/export your receipts from within the app (or via iOS share/export features if provided).
  • Correct/Delete: Edit or delete receipts in the app; delete iCloud data via Settings as above.
  • EU/UK: Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object. Contact us to exercise these rights.
  • California (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You may request access or deletion by contacting us.

Legal Bases (EU/UK)

  • Contract: To provide the app’s core features you request.
  • Legitimate interests: App reliability and security (e.g., crash diagnostics).
  • Consent: Optional permissions (camera, photos, notifications) and iCloud sync.

Changes to This Policy

  • We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted in‑app or on our site, with the updated effective date.
